“Let’s be real” – Birmingham City urged to take transfer action on 5-goal star.

This post is part of Football League World’s ‘Terrace Talk’ series, in which FLW Fan Pundits provide their thoughts on breaking news, teams, players, managers, potential signings, and more.

Lyndon Dykes’ future at Birmingham City remains unknown this summer as the team prepares to return to the Championship. The Blues have been quite busy in the transfer market, as Chris Davies strives to construct a club capable of competing at the top of the second division next season.

Dykes joined the Midlands outfit from QPR last year and appeared in 25 league games, helping the club win League One with 111 points.

The arrival of Kyogo Furuhashi may push him down the pecking order at Birmingham, leaving him unsure about his future at St. Andrew’s.

Birmingham City urged to cash in on Dykes

When asked about Dykes’ future, Birmingham fan pundit Jason Moore proposed that the club sell him rather than maintain him as a fourth-choice. He is willing to trust the Blues’ judgement if they decide to keep Dykes, but he still prefers that they sell him.

“Lyndon appears to be a good character for the squad, and he always put in a good effort last season, but let’s be realistic about the club’s aspirations,” Moore told the Football League World magazine.

“Yes, he offers something unique, but, for me, if you can sell it to someone to come in and be that fourth striker, or just go and get a different man and make Alfie May

your fourth striker.

“I personally think we’re going to cash in on Lyndon Dykes. I can’t see us wanting to keep him. If it’s me, I’d be letting him go straight away.

“Whether Chris Davies wants to do that, and if Lyndon’s happy being the fourth striker knowing he’s not really going to play, and he’s going to play bit parts maybe and come on and see out a game, then so be it, I’ll trust what the club wants to do.

“But if that was me, and he’s got a suitor, money’s not a problem, I’d be moving him on and cashing in on him because he’s not good enough at all.”

Birmingham will begin their new season at home against Ipswich Town on 8 August.

Dykes departure makes the most sense for Birmingham

Dykes did not play a significant role for Birmingham last season, scoring only one goal on their journey to the League One title. The attacker also only started nine of his 25 league outings and was often overlooked by Davies’ squad.

With the team now in the Championship and bringing in new faces like Furuhashi, this summer appears to be a good time to unload him, despite just spending one season at St Andrew’s.

Otherwise, he will simply be taking up a spot in the team that the Blues may better employ for a more effective player, while being unlikely to figure much in Davies’ plans.
