Locals praise return of ‘brilliant’ Dundee Christmas lights switch-on.
On Sunday night, City Square was packed with revellers. Residents applauded the reintroduction of Dundee’s Christmas lights switch-on, which took place for the first time in six years.
City Square was transformed into a winter wonderland with live music, aerial acrobatics, and a variety of family activities before the tree’s lights were turned on at 6 p.m. Following the event, many people took to social media to congratulate Dundee City Council for returning the lights switch-on, which had been replaced by other holiday activities in 2019.
Gaynor Scott posted on the Evening Telegraph’s Facebook page, “It was brilliant, so good to see the Christmas tree back where it belonged, and the city centre was packed full of families once again.”
‘Lots of happy families’
“Had a great time with my grandchildren down, well done Dundee City Council.” Another person said, “Well done, DCC.” Excellent job.
It’s nice to see so many people of many backgrounds and faiths enjoying the festivities.” Iris Grey said, “Great pictures, lots of happy families.” The Yard Market wrote, “What a great day. Well done, everyone. Others applauded the event on the Dundee City Council’s Facebook page. Someone said:
“It appeared that the city core was really bustling and had a most nice crowd.” The tree and surroundings look fantastic, and the crowds make it feel like years ago.
