Lowestoft lifeboat called to stranded fishing vessel:
Two lifeboat crews assisted in bringing in a stranded fishing vessel yesterday afternoon, completing an almost seven-hour expedition.
Lowestoft and Cromer firefighters were alerted to reports of a stranded fishing trawler.
It had been fishing for herring off the shore of Sheringham when it encountered difficulties. Initially, boats from Cromer were dispatched to assist in towing the stricken boat back to safety.
The duty of getting the boat back in was subsequently delegated to the Lowestoft RNLI at 1.11pm, which took seven hours.
A spokeswoman stated, “The 10m yacht was fishing for herring off Sheringham when it lost steering.
“After a very slow tow the disabled boat was brought into Lowestoft Harbour at 8pm.”The task of bringing the boat back in was then handed over to Lowestoft RNLI at 1.11pm which took seven hours.
