Luton and Wycombe believed to have had bids rejected for Bolton midfielder

Luton and Wycombe believed to have had bids rejected for Bolton midfielder.

Bolton Wanderers are alleged to have rejected a transfer deadline bid from League One rivals Luton and Wycombe Wanderers for midfielder Aaron Morley.

The 25-year-old began his career at Manchester City’s academy before moving on to Bolton Wanderers and then Rochdale, where he made his senior debut at the age of 16, going on to play 100 games for the club over a six-year period.

He then returned to the Trotters for a sum thought to be approximately £100,000 in January 2022, as part of the Wanderers team that won the 2023 EFL Trophy by defeating Plymouth Argyle 4-0 in the final.

Last season, Morley joined Wycombe Wanderers on a season-long loan in August, the Chairboys managed by current Town manager Matt Bloomfield, and went on to play 23 times and score twice as the Adams Park club rose to the top of the third division.

Bolton then used a break provision in the contract to recall him in January, and he scored an injury time winner away at Exeter City, three days after doing the same for Wycombe from the penalty spot.

Morley went on to play 19 more games for the Trotters, scoring three more goals, and this season, he has appeared in five games, including two starts, as he approaches his 150th appearance for the club.

However, it appears that Bloomfield, who was rumoured to be interested in Barnsley’s Adam Phillips, was looking for a reunion with the player he signed at Wycombe, as Footy Insider journalist Pete O’Rourke wrote on his official X page:

“Bolton have rejected bids from Luton and Wycombe for midfielder Aaron Morley.”
