Luton boss hails ‘real signing of intent’ as Iraq international joins from Ipswich

Luton boss hails ‘real signing of intent’ as Iraq international joins from Ipswich.

Luton manager Matt Bloomfield says Town’s final acquisition of the summer transfer window is a’real signing of intent’, after striker Ali Al-Hamadi arrived on a season-long loan from Ipswich Town with a buy option.

The 23-year-old rose to prominence with AFC Wimbledon, where he scored 27 goals in 48 appearances between January 2023 and January 2024, earning him a move to Portman Road and helping the Tractor Boys achieve promotion to the Premier League, where he played 11 times last season.

However, the Iraq international, who made 29 appearances for the Blues and scored five goals, has battled for playing time this season, prompting the Hatters to make their move.

Manager Matt Bloomfield told the club’s official website, “I am quite enthusiastic about this one.

I’ve long admired him, and this is a true declaration of intent, especially given how he’s grown over the last few years. He’s an excellent individual that is confident in himself and doesn’t mind speaking his mind.

“As a player, he possesses speed and power, and he enjoys getting in behind and scoring goals. His career took off at Wimbledon, and since moving to Ipswich, he’s played alongside some talented players, which has improved his entire game.

He is currently working his way back to fitness after suffering a small calf injury, but we are thrilled to have him as a member of our team.”
