Luton Town – A Familiar Face In The Bradford City Dug Out

Luton Town – A Familiar Face In The Bradford City Dug Out.

This Saturday, the Hatters travel to Yorkshire to face Bradford City in their third League One game of the season. Hopefully, Matt Bloomfield will oversee a third consecutive victory to keep our perfect record.

But, if that’s the case, it’s safe to assume that Bradford City’s manager, Graham Alexander, will be disappointed. Alexander played 150 league games for Kenilworth Road between 1995 and 1999, scoring 15 goals.

Terry Westley signed Alexander from Scunthorpe United in the summer of 1995 for £100,000, and he quickly established himself as a fan favourite at Kenilworth Road.

Alexander established himself as the best set-piece taker at the club during his time with us, in addition to being a more than competent defender.

Did he ever miss a penalty for the club? Unfortunately, his career at Kenilworth Road came to an end; as a result of one of our financial difficulties, a bid of only £50,000 was enough to sell him to Preston North End.

Alexander made over 1000 league appearances during his playing career, which is an impressive feat.

Alexander has managed Preston North End (caretaker), Fleetwood Town, Scunthorpe United, Salford City, Motherwell, MK Dons, and his current club, Bradford City.

Alexander joined Bradford City on November 6, 2023, and oversaw a dramatic late-season race for promotion from League Two.

Promotion was secured on a memorable final day of the 2024/2025 season, when Antoni Sarcevic’s 96th-minute goal earned the club one of the automatic promotion spots.

On Saturday, Alexander should receive a round of applause from the travelling Luton Town fans in recognition of his time at the club in the 1990s; it is the least he deserves.
