Major changes coming to Coventry in 2026 that will change the city skyline forever.

We’ve taken a look at all of the significant changes coming to Coventry in 2026. Coventry is destined to have an extremely eventful year in 2026.

With expansions progressing, new planning applications planned, and long-standing facilities closing, substantial changes are on the horizon.

We’ve looked at all of the key developments that appear to have the potential to permanently alter Coventry.

City Centre South

This massive rehabilitation effort has already begun with the demolition of vast areas of the city.

The Barracks Car Park and City Arcade were demolished in 2025, and the land is projected to be completely demolished by 2026. In addition, work on the first phase of the scheme is expected to begin early this year.

This will deliver new, affordable housing to the city centre. See our dedicated City Centre South news page for the most up-to-date information on the regeneration project that will transform Coventry’s skyline.

Coventry Airport

This long-standing factory will discontinue operations on June 11 of this year. In December, a planning application for a gigafactory on the site was approved.

Outline planning clearance has already been granted, and this is the next step in the mammoth project’s development – however an end user has yet to be found.

Brandon Stadium

The former speedway track, also known as Coventry Stadium, has been derelict for about a decade and is in increasingly poor condition.

But that may be about to change. Following multiple attempts to reconstruct the site, a new planning application is scheduled to be presented shortly.

Brandon Estates revealed in December that they were preparing to submit an application for up to 115 residences and, most importantly, a new speedway track.

However, the shopping mall was recently sold to new owners for an unknown amount.

It’s unclear what changes, if any, this will imply for the site, but we’ll keep you updated on this and other matters here on CoventryLive.
