Man arrested in people smuggling investigation.

A 22-year-old man suspected of transporting migrants from Albania to the UK on small boats and lorries has been re-arrested.

According to the National Crime Agency (NCA), the guy was arrested by armed officers in Clarence Square, Brighton, on Thursday on suspicion of money laundering and possession with intent to supply class A drugs.

On August 7, he was apprehended at an immigration detention centre at Gatwick Airport, but was later freed on bail, according to the National Crime Agency.

The agency stated that the individual was being questioned by detectives on Friday.

During a search of an address on Dyke Road, the NCA discovered cocaine divided into dozens of bags, as well as around £1,000 in cash.

NCA branch commander Sara-Jayne Moore stated, “This suspect was re-arrested as part of our ongoing investigation into dangerous people smuggling crossings over the Channel utilising small boats and HGVs.

“Tackling people smuggling is a top priority for the NCA, and this is one of 100 ongoing investigations targeting groups or individuals both directly involved in organising crossings, or those who facilitate that criminality.”
