Man found guilty of pipe bomb attempted murder.

A 38-year-old man was found guilty of attempted murder after the discovery of a pipe bomb.

Robert Kovacs was detained when police discovered an explosive device beneath an Audi in Borehamwood, Hertfordshire, in August.

Following a trial at St Albans Crown Court on Tuesday, Kovacs of Tenby Road, Edgware, north-west London, was found guilty of producing an explosive substance with intent and acting with intent to create an explosion.

Kovacs, who entered a not guilty plea, will be sentenced on May 5.Police said officers were dispatched to an address in Cowley Hill, Borehamwood, on Saturday, August 16, after receiving allegations of a suspicious device on a driveway.

They claimed surrounding homes were evacuated while explosive experts evaluated the handmade device and conducted controlled explosions.

Following the trial, police stated that their investigation had been “extensive and complex”.

Detective Caeva Taylor made the following statement: “I want to thank residents who were evacuated on the day for their patience and understanding during what must have been a very stressful experience.”
