Man sentenced for random attack on teenage boy in Ipswich

Man sentenced for random attack on teenage boy in Ipswich.

A man who assaulted a teenage boy he had never met has been forced to give the victim compensation.

Akam Dilshad was jailed by Suffolk Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday, after admitting to a charge of assault by beating earlier this month. Previously, the court was informed that Dilshad, 23, had a chance meeting with a teenager on August 8, last year.

The victim, who was 17 at the time, was travelling through Coytes Gardens when he stopped in a shop with pals and met Dilshad for the first time.

Dilshad then asked the victim what he was looking at, and the victim said that he was looking at Dilshad because Dilshad was looking at him.

Dilshad then directed the victim to step outside the business. Outside, he grabbed the victim by the back of the shirt and struck him in the face and neck. The victim admitted punching Dilshad back, but claimed it was in self-defence.

According to the court, a woman intervened and told Dilshad to stop, at which time he departed. The court was told that Dilshad later tried to apologise to the victim, but she told him it was too late.

Dilshad’s defence revealed a severe decline in his mental state, with defence lawyer David Allan stating that Dilshad would occasionally view someone as a threat when they were “clearly not”. Dilshad, of Rosalind Close in Colchester, was fined £216 for his actions.

He was also sentenced to give the victim £250 in compensation. He was not ordered to pay court fees or a surcharge for victim services.
