The build-up…

We haven’t faced this group in the Premier League in a few months, but the fifteen games we’ve played so far this season have all seemed to lead up to today.

It serves as a helpful reminder that it was only around three and a half years ago that we defeated Wycombe to move out of League One, and it has only been about two years since we were taught how far we still had to go. The difference between the two teams over the last seven years or so has perhaps never been greater.

.

As we go closer to the halfway point of the season and have an undefeated home record thus far, we now play Newcastle, one point ahead of them in the Premier League standings. Although both teams have struggled at the bottom of the table when we’ve played them in the playoffs in the past, it feels like a win would be extremely meaningful.

A. The fact that we wouldn’t be able to fight for a very long time probably made Newcastle supporters feel at ease. Nevertheless, we’re making the most of the quick growth that has taken us from the League One play-offs to competing on an equal footing in less than four years. We know we’re back, no matter what, but getting three points today would be the cherry on top of an absurdly large sundae.

Eddie Howe’s team had a timely reminder of what it’s like to win away from home two weeks ago when they defeated a very bad Everton for their first victory away from home this season. We’ve already discussed our undefeated record at home. The remaining six consist of three draws and three losses, and it continues to be their weakness this season.

After obtaining more than half of our summer expenditure from Liverpool for Isak, there were high hopes, but three victories in the first eleven did not live up to expectations. The situation has improved after three victories and a draw in the previous four games, but they weren’t perfect at home against Burnley last weekend and on the trip to Germany, where Bayer Leverkusen scored a late equalizer.

Newcastle has given up nine goals in the last ten minutes of games in all competitions this season, so the midweek incident is nothing unusual. The players, management, and commentators all questioned their mindset after the goal in Germany.

They will be aware that today may be their biggest test given the exertion of midweek, Chelsea’s visit over the weekend, and an impending trip to Old Trafford.

The wagering…

The lot are priced at 6/5, the draw is 9/4, and the bookies have the Lads at 9/4 to win the game.
