It promises to increase food options in the neighbourhood, create jobs, and increase funding through business rates, as well as introduce a community assistance programme and volunteer opportunities.

Local councilman Ibby Ullah responded, claiming that McDonald’s was “throwing money on ads to win support.” He went further: “We don’t have corporate cash – but we do have our community.”

Sheffield City Council staff advised denial of the proposal in July because to concerns about its proximity to schools and evidence that a ‘concentration of similar uses’ locally was affecting young people’s health.

A second proposal submitted in September received 29 letters of support and 224 objections on grounds such as litter, health, congestion, and air pollution.

McDonald’s has locations on Granville Road and Archer Road nearby.
