Mendy fit for Millwall as Pezzolano admits Blackburn mistake

Mendy fit for Millwall as Pezzolano admits Blackburn mistake.

Paulo Pezzolano admits his 4-4-2 formation against Blackburn was a mistake, but aims to address other performance issues ahead of Watford’s match against Millwall on Monday.

The Hornets struggled to create anything noteworthy at Vicarage Road, prompting Pezzolano to revert to a back four and field two center-forwards. Pezzolano believes the formation was not the only issue and may use it again in certain situations.

“Last game, I thought it was possible, but it turned out to be a mistake on my part.” However, it is conceivable in specific situations or depending on the opposition. “The most significant aspect was the connections.

There are new players. So, for example, the relationship between Jeremy Petris and Kwadwo Baah was poor because they did not know one other very well. “We had Max [Alleyne] on the left and with so many players coming back from internationals there were lots of adjustments.”

The focus now shifts to The Den, where Imran Louza will return from suspension and Papy Mendy will be ready to make his debut after completing a personal training programme since signing last month.

Other returnees will be decided late, with Caleb Wiley and Pierre Dwomoh having entered training ahead of the Blackburn match, with Nestory Irankunda in contention for a starting spot. Pezzolano stated, “Irankunda had travelled for 34 hours the day before the game, so we would have taken a great risk putting him on the pitch from the start last week.

“But he’s in shape, young, and in a wonderful mental state right now. “It’s been a great, yet rigorous, week of training. Everyone is working hard and eager to see results.”
