Millwall boss: ‘At times, I need to stop Jimmy from wanting to put more money into it’

Millwall boss: ‘At times, I need to stop Jimmy from wanting to put more money into it’.

ALEX Neil is content to work within Millwall’s financial limits, and he joked that at times he had to stop Chairman James Berylson from investing more money in the club.

The Lions have made significant investments in the first team, breaking their transfer record three times in the last three windows to sign Mihailo Ivanovic, Camiel Neghli, and Josh Coburn, and signing 22 players on permanent contracts since July 2024.

Millwall is now third in the Championship after winning their last four games.

Neil has coached 35 league games since his appointment on December 30, 2024, winning eighteen, drawing six, and losing eleven. His team has scored 60 points in that time, averaging 1.71 per game.

Millwall would finish with 79 points if they were to play all 46 games of the season. This is ridiculous; how are we losing out to Bury? Millwall chairman upset by transfer saga

When asked if Millwall’s recent success will give him a stronger negotiating position in January, Neil answered, “I don’t think so. “At times, I have to stop Jimmy from investing more money in it.

I’m not attempting to persuade Jimmy or Steve, or anyone else for that matter, to strengthen. That is not how we function. We work as a group.

Jimmy is desperate for this club to succeed and grow. Steve is definitely working very hard to discover players, close deals, meet with agents, and so on.

My role is to deal with the day-to-day issues on the pitch with the players and make sure we’re properly set up. “So I have no opinion on attempting to strengthen. The basic truth is that I work within the parameters of what the club is and where we are.

If Jimmy and Steve believe we can move ahead and add more players, and Jimmy is willing to put the money in, as he has always been, then wonderful. If he isn’t, we’ll just carry on.” Neil was then questioned if he had ever encountered a similar ownership issue in his career.
