Millwall boss says Macaulay Langstaff earned start against Ipswich Town

Millwall boss says Macaulay Langstaff earned start against Ipswich Town.

ALEX Neil believed Macaulay Langstaff earned his start at Ipswich Town last Friday.

Neil decided to go two up front for the Boxing Day game at The Den, giving Langstaff his second league start of the season.

He paired Mihailo Ivanovic, who has mostly featured as a lone striker since Josh Coburn sustained a quad injury in October. The game ended 0-0, with Camiel Neghli’s late goal thrown out for offside.

I don’t believe any of the upcoming games will have the same starting lineup. I don’t believe that’s conceivable. We only have two games between each match. We’re already very stretched.
“Macca has done well. He came on and did quite well against Southampton. He also performed admirably in another game. He has been doing well in training over the last few weeks.
He clearly deserved to start, and I thought he was fantastic in the game. So I was quite excited for him.
Ryan Leonard made his second appearance after returning from a calf injury in early November, replacing Billy Mitchell in midfield. “Lenny can play right back, he can play centre-back, he can play left-back,” Neil told me about himself.
“He can play in the middle of the field if you want him to.”We needed a ballplayer, even if Alfie [Doughty] isn’t a middle-of-the-park player.
We needed someone who could break up the game, win headers and tackles, and cover the other half of the pitch. Lenny is capable of performing all of these tasks.
“I thought the balance when I knew Billy was coming off would have been as good as we’ve got available, really.”
