Millwall finalise deal to sign defender after Everton exit

Millwall finalise deal to sign defender after Everton exit.

Everton was not shy about releasing players ahead of the new Premier League season.

David Moyes is keeping a close eye on the Toffees as they prepare for a busy season at their new Hill Dickinson Stadium.

Looking ahead to the new year, a number of new faces have joined, with Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall being the most recent addition to Merseyside.

As a result, departures were always likely, allowing Millwall to steal in and sign an outgoing star from League Four.

Millwall sign Everton defender after exit

Looking at the Everton squad right now, there is plenty of quality across the pitch, despite a lack of depth in some areas.

Having said that, centre-back is one of the better positions on the pitch, given the quality of Jarrad Branthwaite and James Tarkowski.

Jake O’Brien and Michael Keane provide additional support in the squad, which is a real strength for the Toffees.

Younger players looking to break into the squad will always struggle to make a name for themselves in Blue as a result.

As a result, it was unsurprising that teenage defender Freddie Freedman left Merseyside this summer when his contract expired.

Alan Nixon has now informed his Patreon supporters (10 August) that the 17-year-old has found a new club, having joined Millwall on a free transfer.

Freedman to benefit from Everton departure

Under Moyes, it seemed unlikely that Dougie Freedman’s son would make it into the first team at such a young age.

This appears to be a much more likely opportunity for the Lions, as Alex Neil appears to have assembled an exciting squad at The Den.

7. Blackburn 66
8. Millwall 66
In the near future, Freedman could benefit from a move away from Everton as he looks to establish a senior football career with the Championship club. It will be interesting to see if this decision comes back to haunt the Toffees, especially if Branthwaite’s injury concerns persist in League 4.
