Millwall finally make EFL Cup work for youngsters’ development after previous shoulder shrugs – now it’s time to settle scores at Crystal Palace.

MILLWALL won the EFL Cup for the third time in nine years with a 2-1 victory over Coventry City at The Den on Tuesday evening.

Since returning to the Championship, they have been eliminated by four lower-tier clubs: Leyton Orient, Reading, Cambridge United, and Oxford United.

Some defeats in the tournament during those years appeared to be accepted with a shrug of the shoulders. After all, the Lions are unlikely to win the competition, and it lacks the attraction of an FA Cup run beginning in January.

There were some poor performances, including a 4-0 loss at home to League One Reading and a 1-0 loss at Cambridge United, both in League One.
