Millwall poised to hijack Wrexham’s bid for £3.5m Premier League ace despite ‘difficult’ relationship

Millwall poised to hijack Wrexham’s bid for £3.5m Premier League ace despite ‘difficult’ relationship.

Wrexham cannot sign everyone, and Millwall are now pursuing one of the Red Dragons’ most recent transfer targets. So far this summer, Wrexham have signed ten new players, and it appears that the Championship newcomers are far from done.

We know Wrexham have bid £7.5 million for Southampton’s Will Smallbone, as Phil Parkinson looks to add another midfielder to his squad.

However, one of the players on his shortlist, Andy Irving, appears to be on his way elsewhere, with Millwall reportedly interested in the West Ham star.

Millwall want to sign Andy Irving from West Ham

According to Alan Nixon’s Patreon report, Millwall are interested in signing the Scottish midfielder from local neighbours and fierce rivals West Ham.

Irving is said to be able to leave the club for a fee of £3.5 million, but he recently turned down a move to Wrexham for “personal reasons.”

Millwall will reportedly match that offer or attempt to sign Irving on loan for the season. If it’s the latter, West Ham want a permanent deal at the end of the loan period.

While fans of both clubs have long despised each other, and moves have been “difficult in the past,” it appears that this is one that could be approved by all parties.

Millwall squad will be well-placed for promotion push

In our Championship preview for 2025/26, we identified Millwall as potential dark horses in a promotion push.

Given their activity in this window, we feel even more strongly about it now.

With six new Millwall signings already, including Josh Coburn, Massimo Luongo, and Alfie Doughty, Alex Neil has made wise recruitment decisions.

The Lions have had an impressive start to the season; the players appear to be working well together and have fully embraced Neil’s style of play.

We suspect Millwall has three more areas to improve before deadline day, but securing Irving in that central midfield spot would go a long way towards ensuring they are in the promotion race at the end of the season.
