Millwall’s Derek Mazou-Sacko ‘slightly ahead of schedule’ after making first-team return in Swansea City win.

ALEX Neil stated that Derek Mazou-Sacko was ahead of schedule following his comeback to first-team action against Swansea City.

Mazou-Sacko, 21, was sidelined for eight weeks with an ACL tear in late November, but was deemed fit enough to make the matchday squad against Swansea.

He replaced Camiel Neghli in the 77th minute, with the score still tied at 1-1. Caleb Taylor scored a late header to give Millwall a 2-1 victory.

“You could probably say he’s slightly ahead of schedule,” Neil told me. “He has not had many training sessions. I put him on the pitch today.”In terms of racing about, he’s as hungry as anyone.

I believe it was only one pass he played to his left side, which he will get to when he is fresh and fit.

“Again, pushed Billy [Mitchell] to the limit. Billy remained on the pitch. I didn’t want to have to play Mihailo [Ivanovic] for so long today.

But, once again, we’re in a need-to-win situation where the points are critical right now, so we stick with the pack, and I took a chance on that. But it worked out in our favour.

At the moment, I believe the two lads are well. Hopefully, that will help us in the following group of games.”
