More trains put on for football fans ahead of derby.

Extra trains have been scheduled ahead of the East Anglian Derby’s return on Sunday. Approximately 2,000 Norwich City fans will travel to Portman Road for the 12:00 BST kickoff against Ipswich Town.

Greater Anglia has arranged four additional trains before and two after the match, in addition to the regular hourly service between Norwich and Ipswich.

The rail company’s regional customer care manager, James Steward, stated, “We know this match is very important to thousands of our customers.”

The extra services will depart Norwich at 07:20, 08:15, 09:08, and 10:30, with all stopping in Diss on the route to Ipswich.

After the game, services will depart Ipswich at 14:25 and 15:10, with a stop at Diss on the route to Norwich.

Mr Steward continued, “We always aim to support significant local events whenever possible and make it easy for people to get there by rail. “Trains will operate with the maximum number of carriages. Our new trains are longer, with more seats.

However, we would like to remind everyone to be patient while boarding because we expect a large number of passengers on these routes.”

The Championship match will be the first between the local rivals since April last year, when Town spent a season in the Premier League.

The Canaries won 1-0 at Carrow Road, extending their unbeaten run in the fixture to 14 games.

The reunion is made more interesting by the fact that the guy who scored the winning goal for Norwich in that game, Chilean midfielder Marcelino Nunez, controversially joined Ipswich last month in a move reputedly for £10 million.

The Tractor Boys are looking to reclaim bragging rights for the first time since April 2009, when they won 3-2 at Portman Road.
In the early Championship rankings, the teams in mid-table are separated by only one point, despite the fact that Ipswich has played one fewer game.
Town go to Bristol City later, while City host West Brom on Wednesday evening.
