Nathan Jones set to make League One ace his next Charlton Athletic signing, this one’s not from Luton Town
Nathan Jones set to make League One ace his next Charlton Athletic signing, this one’s not from Luton Town.
Charlton Athletic do not appear to be letting up on summer signings just yet, with Nathan Jones plotting his next target.
Charlton Athletic has been adding to their ranks as they prepare for life in the Championship after a successful 2024/25 League One season under Nathan Jones. The Addicks have already signed Nathan Jones to a new contract, fending off interest from clubs such as Cardiff City.
Jones has already brought in a number of players, giving Charlton a look similar to Luton 2.0, with many familiar faces arriving at the Valley. However, according to reports, a non-former Luton player will join Charlton very soon.
Charlton Athletic closing in on deal for Blackpool’s Rob Apter
The 22-year-old has been with Blackpool’s senior team since 2020, but has spent the majority of his time on loan at Bamber Bridge, Chester, Scunthorpe United, and Tranmere Rovers. Throughout the 2024/25 season, he was a key player for Steve Bruce, scoring eight goals and providing three assists in 43 league matches.
And now it appears that Charlton has acquired his services. South London Sport understands that the Addicks are nearing a deal for Blackpool winger Rob Apter. The 22-year-old right winger’s transfer appears to be going well.
Apter is not another Luton player, which may surprise some Charlton fans. However, if he does make the Valley move, he will be reunited with formerBlackpool teammate Sonny Carey.
How would Rob Apter fit into Nathan Jones’ squad?
Rob Apter’s potential arrival at Charlton would add to Nathan Jones’ attacking options, particularly on the right side. Jones frequently employs a 4-2-3-1 formation, relying heavily on dynamic wide players.
Apter, a natural right midfielder/winger, had a breakout season with Blackpool in League One. His playing style is distinguished by his dribbling ability and ability to create opportunities, as Steve Bruce told the London World he is a “dying breed” of player.
Apter could effectively replace the recently departed Thierry Small, providing a similar threat from wide positions while cutting inside and contributing to the team’s goal total.
While there are still aspects of his game to refine, his impressive development suggests he is prepared for the challenges of the Championship.
