New 20mph limit approved for roads in city estate.
Plans to implement a 20mph speed limit on a Leicester housing estate have been approved.
Leicester City Council announced that the measure would be implemented on Watkin Road and six surrounding streets in an effort to improve safety.
The council believed that the 20mph limit would reduce exhaust pollution in the area.
A consultation was held, and 81% of the 224 residents who answered stated they favoured the limit, while 19% disagreed.
It will cost £4,000 to implement and will be covered by the developers who developed the properties off Upperton Road.
