However, County Hall extended the contract until next April to allow a contract retendering process to be carried out.

With that process entering its final stages, Graham Plant, the council’s cabinet member for highways, has agreed to delegate the award of a new contract to Al Collier, director of procurement and sustainability, once the procurement process is complete.

The Conservative-run County Hall intends to issue a 10-year contract with a five-year break point.

The business that wins the competition will lease the county council-owned bus terminal, which includes monitoring bus movements, providing a customer service desk, and maintaining the land and structures.

The contractor will be in charge of maintaining and cleaning the park and ride sites at Norwich Airport, Harford, Sprowston, Thickthorn, Postwick, and Costessey, but the site and buildings will not be leased.

Konectbus, which now runs the bus terminal and park and ride locations, previously operated the park and ride services.

However, following retendering, the council gave the management of those services to two other companies, First and Simonds, which took over earlier this year.

The future of the bus station and park-and-ride locations is uncertain due to local government reorganisation and devolution.

All of Norfolk’s councils will be abolished and replaced, with a Norfolk and Suffolk mayor presiding over a new united authority.

It is unclear if assets controlled by County Hall will be transferred to the new combined authority or to the newly formed council or councils.
