New Brentford captain Nathan Collins on the changes at the club this summer, his future and Yoane Wissa

Nathan Collins, the new captain of Brentford, says he is excited about the opportunity to guide the team during a period of significant transition.

Following Christian Norgaard’s move to Arsenal earlier this summer, Collins was formally announced as the Bees’ new captain on Saturday. Later that day, he celebrated his appointment by scoring a well-taken header against Queens Park Rangers, a local rival.

In addition to Norgaard, the team’s top scorer from the previous campaign, Bryan Mbeumo, left for Manchester United, while longtime head coach Thomas Frank joined Tottenham, replacing Keith Andrews.

When questioned about Mbeumo and Norgaard’s departure, Collins responded, “Of course, you’re always disappointed to lose players of that quality.”

“They are deserving of the chance. It’s incredible what they did for us last season and for Brentford in general. They are deserving of these chances. This club goes on. We proceed.

“New players are joining us for those spots; they want to compete for that position and wear that shirt. This task is new. That role needs to be filled by someone else.

“In football, things happen quickly. Managers and players both move on. It happens fast, and you need to understand that.

“In this club, we have recovered. Many excellent people are working in the background, supporting and encouraging us. This season is a fascinating challenge.

Yoane Wissa, Brentford’s second-leading scorer from the previous campaign, has also drawn interest from other teams this summer.

Although the 28-year-old missed the team’s friendly victory over QPR after departing the training camp in Portugal last month, manager Andrews says he is excited to “welcome back” the forward to team training.

“We all know Wissa,” Collins adds, adding that he hopes Wissa remains this summer. He is a charming young man. He is a decent man. He’s a pleasant guy, even in the changing room. He is free to do as he pleases.

Collins claims he is totally focused on helping lead Brentford through this transitional phase, despite being linked to other teams this summer, including a potential reunion with Frank at Spurs.

“My focus is here,” he remarked. “We are prepared to start the season. Get a perfect score in that final match, and you’ll be primed for Nottingham Forest.

After being named captain, Collins remarked, “As a child, it’s a dream to be able to captain a team in the Premier League.” “I’m excited for the challenge.

“I’m excited about it. The group is simple to lead. I have a lot of nice individuals, a lot of experienced people here that I can bounce off and use for information or whatever I need. I will find it enjoyable.
