New bus lane proposals approved for town

New bus lane proposals approved for town.

A proposal for new bus lanes in an East Sussex town has been accepted. On Wednesday, East Sussex County Council’s planning committee unanimously approved to add lanes to two parts of the A259 in Eastbourne.

The council stated that the measures for Seaside and St Anthony’s Avenue were intended to enhance bus route times. However, businesses raised concern about the loss of parking and increased congestion that the lanes are expected to cause.

The proposed modifications included the installation of an eastbound bus lane between the Windermere Crescent intersection and Seaside Roundabout, as well as a westbound bus lane between Langney Roundabout and Seaside Roundabout.

They also propose upgrading current pedestrian crossings, according to the Local Democracy Reporting Service.
