Newcastle target Strand Larsen ‘will stay’ – Pereira.
Wolves head coach Vitor Pereira believes forward Jorgen Strand Larsen “will stay with us” after missing the loss to Everton due to two rejected bids from Newcastle.
The 25-year-old received £55 million and £50 million proposals from the Magpies, both of which Wolves turned down.
Newcastle, who have recruited German Nick Woltemade, are searching for new firepower as Alexander Isak attempts to negotiate a move to Liverpool – the Sweden forward is in talks with the Magpies and has yet to feature this season.
Strand Larsen, who just made his loan move from Celta Vigo permanent for £23 million this summer, sat in the seats at Molineux as Wolves lost 3-2 to Everton on Saturday.
Sky Sports asked Pereira if the Norwegian will still be with the club following Monday’s deadline, and he said, “I hope so.”
He’s an essential player. “If he plays today, his talent could provide us with something more. We are not in the position to sell our finest players. “The information I have is that he will stay with us.”
Wolves do not want to move the Norway international, primarily because of how little time they would have to find a replacement during the transfer window closing on Monday – but also because of how valuable Strand Larsen is to their Premier League survival chances.
Pereira told BBC Match of the Day that his team “needs to bring more players, not sell players”.
With two days till the transfer window closes, Liverpool is yet to make an improved second offer for Isak, after their initial £110 million proposal was rejected on August 1.
Meanwhile, Newcastle are still looking for another forward to sign, which might pave the way for Isak’s prospective move to Liverpool.
