Norwich-area residents to have new options to travel around New England: What to know.
-
- GOGO Charters will begin offering new bus routes throughout New England, including a stop at Mohegan Sun, in the summer of 2026.
-
- The company aims to provide affordable travel options, with fares starting at $10, for commuters, college students, and tourists.
- GOGO Charters provides modern buses equipped with amenities such as reclining leather seats, bathrooms, and Wi-Fi.
- The expansion into New England is part of a larger national strategy, with routes already operational in Texas and planned for other areas.
People in the Norwich area will have a new way to travel around New England next year. GOGO Charters is expanding its routes in New England, centred on Boston.
One of these stops is called the Norwich stop, but it will be at the Mohegan Sun in Uncasville. According to a press release, this stop is on the route from Boston to New Haven via Providence, Rhode Island.
Fares start at $10, and service will begin in the summer of 2026, if not sooner, according to Jonathan Schnieder, Director of Communications for GOGO Charters.
According to the press release, the other GOGO Charters New England routes will be a Boston and New Haven route that travels through Worcester, Massachusetts and Hartford, as well as a route from Boston to Lowell, Massachusetts and Manchester, New Hampshire.
Why eastern Connecticut?
New England is part of GOGO’s expansion because it has a large number of attractions that are relatively close together.
Mohegan Sun was chosen as the physical stop because it is a well-established destination. Schneider suggested that New Yorkers take Amtrak to New Haven before taking GOGO to Mohegan Sun.
GOGO Charters also saw an opportunity because there are few options in the area for daily commuters and college students other than Amtrak, according to Schneider. GOGO is a “nimble” company that does not use traditional bus terminals.
Schneider said that if there is enough demand, the company could easily add a stop in downtown Norwich or another between Norwich and Providence.
“The flexibility of it all will be really unique, and hopefully it puts us in a nice spot for long-term success in the region, up and down this corridor,” Schneider told the crowd.
The buses on the New England routes are newer models, with the oldest being only eight years old.
Schneider explained that the charter buses have reclining leather seats, bathrooms, and Wi-Fi.
“They’re certainly not the historic Greyhound buses that you’re used to,” he told me.
Nationwide expansion
The New England routes are just part of GOGO Charters’ nationwide expansion.
The first new routes in the expansion will be in Texas, with hubs in Chicago, Illinois, and Indianapolis, Indiana, as well as stops in Florida and southern California, according to Schneider.
GOGO Charters has already begun its expansion in Texas and received a positive response.
Schneider, however, stated that optimising the company’s schedule can be challenging. “We don’t want to cannibalise ourselves,” he told me. “We want to complement the existing options that people have.”
However, Schneider stated that GOGO Charters will apply what it has learnt in earlier stages of its nationwide expansion to its New England routes.
