Lowestoft has also been included in the scheme, and Great Yarmouth is one of 95 additional areas receiving an immediate £1.5 million funding injection to improve public spaces.

Claire Kidman, Norwich City Council cabinet member for communities, stated, “This news is a strong affirmation of the work that communities are already doing to create a fairer, more vibrant Norwich.

“We’re particularly thrilled to see support for Heartsease, Pilling Park, Bowthorpe, and West Earlham, all of which we’ve identified as areas in need of targeted investment.

“These are neighbourhoods where residents have been striving to bring about positive change for a long time, and this funding will help accelerate that progress.”

Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer pledged that those “with real skin in the game” would get to decide how the money is spent.

According to the government, the funds, which are part of a £5 billion investment, would provide “long-overlooked communities” with the assurance and control they require to plan for the future.

The funds will be used to revitalise retail districts, rehabilitate parks, and breathe new life into pubs, recreation centres, and community halls.

Communities will also acquire new authority to confiscate boarded-up stores, prohibit nuisance enterprises, and purchase beloved local assets before they close.

Sir Keir stated, “For too long, people have seen their cities and streets deteriorate, powerless to prevent boarded-up stores and neglected parks.

That’s it for now. “We are investing in the future of the United Kingdom by supporting true patriots who are building communities across the country.

“This is a huge investment, but what matters most is who decides how it’s spent: the neighbours, volunteers and parents who know their communities best – the people with real skin in the game.”

A spokesman for Great Yarmouth Borough Council stated, “The council welcomes the government’s announcement of this additional funding for Great Yarmouth to build on much of the good work that has already been done in the town and will continue.”

“We look forward to working closely with our town board, made up of local stakeholders and partners, to utilise this funding once further guidance is issued by the government.”
