Obita out of derby – but two key Hibs men set to return.

Hibernian head coach David Grey is encouraged by the likely return of two crucial players ahead of Tuesday night’s Edinburgh derby against Hearts, but last week’s encounter against Dundee United also cost the Easter Road manager another influential first-team member.

Jamie McGrath and Warren O’Hora both trained on Monday after missing the previous two and three games, respectively.

Grey hopes that both will be fit to participate in the capital teams’ third meeting of the season, although he will be without Jordan Obita, who sustained an injury in the 3-2 triumph over Jim Goodwin’s side.

“Today, Jamie McGrath and Warren O’Hora both trained for the first time.

The addition of these two players adds strength to the group. However, Jordan Obita is out due to a hamstring injury sustained in the last game.Grant Hanley is still out, as is Chris Cadden.

Grey will be able to rely on his six fresh signings in this game. Kai Andrews, Owen Elding, Munashe Garananga, Felix Passlack, Dane Scarlett, and Ante Suto all played against Rangers or Dundee United, or both, and will be vying for starting or bench spots.

“The biggest and most pleasing thing is that I’ve had a lot more time on the grass with the new players,” says the head coach.

“When you have the carrot of the Derby to look forward to, following a last-minute winner in the previous game, people are feeling good about themselves and trying to build on that momentum, so training has been extremely active.

“The new signings definitely bring a freshness and the more time you get on the grass, the better.

“It’s only been one week with some of them, but you start to see subtle things when you go over the previous game, and that’s when the debrief becomes critical in terms of implementing the way we want to play and incorporating it into training.

“But a lot of that can go out the window in the first minute in the derby, so we’ll wait and see what happens.”
