October works to halt trains between Watford and London

October works to halt trains between Watford and London.

Upcoming maintenance is expected to cause significant changes to trains between Watford and London.

At the end of October, there will be timetable changes for services between Clapham Junction, Willesden, and Watford Junction due to a level crossing overhaul.

During a four-day shutdown over the half-term school holidays, engineers will work around the clock to replace rail, sleepers, drainage systems, and equipment at the Mitre Bridge level crossing. From October 25 to October 28, no Southern trains will operate between Clapham Junction and Watford.

Jenny Saunders, Southern’s customer service director, said: “I understand that these works will disrupt some journeys through West London during the October half term, but they will also provide long-term reliability for key infrastructure that our services rely on through West London for many half terms to come.

“If you’re planning to travel between 25 October and 28, we’ve got ticket acceptance in place with buses and other train operators to help you get where you need to be, and I encourage passengers to check online before travelling.”

The complex maintenance affects a portion of the London Overground Mildmay Line and Southern trains on the West London Line, and passengers are encouraged to plan their travels ahead of time at National Rail Enquiries.

It is required to “keep the railway safe and reliable for passengers and freight services” while also allowing the line’s speed restriction to be lifted.
