Old Firm ‘buckle under pressure’ as incredible title race twists again.

“The two teams from Glasgow have buckled under the pressure.”

Michael Stewart, a former Scotland midfielder, said the Scottish Premiership title race produced yet another weekend of great drama.

Hearts manager Derek McInnes must have been smiling as Rangers drew 2-2 at bottom club Livingston and defending champions Celtic were defeated at home by Hibernian on Sunday.

After a close victory against Falkirk 24 hours earlier, his team now leads Rangers by four points and Celtic by six with ten games remaining.

Motherwell, who finished fourth, also won big over the weekend, defeating St Mirren 5-0.

Jens Berthel Askou’s team also has a game in hand over the top two, trailing Hearts by 10 points.

They’ve only conceded three goals in their last 15 games and lost once in 19, all while playing the most expansive football in the top tier.

According to Stewart, Motherwell and Hearts’ recent victories have put pressure on the two Glasgow teams. It’s possible that Motherwell will finish ahead of Celtic or Rangers, or both. Celtic and Rangers could finish third and fourth, respectively.

Next weekend follows a similar pattern, with Hearts and Motherwell playing at home on Saturday against Aberdeen and Dundee United, respectively, before Rangers host Celtic in the derby on Sunday.

By then, Motherwell could be just one point behind Celtic, while Hearts could be seven points ahead of Rangers and nine ahead of Martin O’Neill’s squad. “It looks like Hearts are the team that can only throw it away,” former Celtic custodian Pat Bonner added. “They are in an unbelievable position.”

Stewart continued, “Everything is on the line.” The combinations of all these games are astonishing. “That is what makes this season so exciting.”
