Pevensey: Villagers protest against plans for 140 homes.
Residents have protested the construction of a housing development near their town.
Residents in Westham, Pevensey, gathered with placards to protest plans for 140 new homes near Peelings Lane.
Maggie Prangnell, 63, stated that people attended a public consultation on the plans in July, which was led by Bellway Strategic Land.
The suggestions have yet to be properly submitted as planning applications.
Ms Prangnell stated, “Six generations of my husband’s family have walked up and down that lane.”
The residents adore this section of Peelings Lane.
It is a village amenity. “That’s where everyone goes for walks. It’s a gorgeous lane.

“We’d like to keep it as is. “The level of feeling among the village is simply remarkable.
Nobody wants it there. “It would be a complete travesty. We don’t want to lose what we have, which is so cherished by so many people.
She stated that people have expressed several worries about the construction of the new dwellings. “We do not want a housing estate with more traffic,” she informed the crowd. “We want to preserve the rural flavour.

“The other major concern is the negative impact on the Pevensey Levels.” “There’s a lot of sensitive biodiversity.
“As well as the increased demand on our local services. “I have had so many people email with reasons why they don’t want this.”
The Friends of Peelings Lane planned the demonstration on October 19. The group travelled down Peelings Lane before ending with tea and cake at the village hall.

“The plans would have a significant impact on many people’s lives,” Ms Prangnell noted. “We are really passionate about it.
“We want them to know how passionate we are about keeping what we have got.” Bellway was sought for comment.
