Pezzolano on squad depth: ‘The team will not be fixed’.
Paulo Pezzolano adds that since he manages a group full of potential starters, every player will have the opportunity to impress.
The Hornets have at least two players in every position, with the most notable example being centre-back, where five players are expected to play regularly.
The Watford head coach emphasised that team selection will be variable during the season, and that training performance is critical. He stated, “First and foremost, every player should be satisfied because of the pleasure and privilege that comes with wearing this shirt.
“Secondly, we are highly practical. Players understand that whomever works the hardest during the week, whoever is in the best mood, and whoever is in the best shape will play.
“It’s not like there will be a set number of participants for each game and the rest will not play. “That will evolve and change.” The same concept applies to formation, with 4-2-3-1 and 5-3-2 being the two systems employed thus far this season.
Following the 2-2 draw with Southampton, Pezzolano described finding the balance between attack and defence as his “biggest challenge” and revealed more about how he intends to juggle things moving forward ahead of Saturday’s game against Blackburn.
He stated, “It will depend on everything – whether we’re playing at home or away, who we’re playing against, and what happens during the game. “It’s fantastic to have so many possibilities.
It will also rely on how we want to evolve inside our playing concept, or game model. “All those elements will combine and we need to have that tactical intelligence as a coaching staff to read the right moment and needs of each game.”

Pezzolano praised Blackburn’s head coach, former Watford manager Valerien Ismael, and the team’s back-four formation so far this season.
He stated, “Blackburn is a terrific squad, with a good head coach. “We need to find a strategy to injure them without compromising our defence.
We know they’ll come in and press hard, they’re fantastic at transitioning, and they have a lot of strengths. “The most important thing for us is to find ways to dominate and threaten.”
