PGMOL remove referee from Liverpool and Arsenal game after VAR error at Stamford Bridge

PGMOL remove referee from Liverpool and Arsenal game after VAR error at Stamford Bridge.

Referee Michael Salisbury has been removed from his job as video assistant referee (VAR) for Sunday’s match between Liverpool and Arsenal after PGMOL ruled that his judgement to deny Josh King’s goal for Fulham against Chelsea on Saturday was incorrect.
King thought he had opened the scoring for Fulham at Stamford Bridge in the 22nd minute, but a touch on Trevoh Chalobah in the build-up was deemed a foul by Salisbury, who directed match referee Rob Jones to reverse his judgement from goal to no goal.

After the game, Howard Webb, the chief of Professional Game Match Officials Limited (PGMOL), admitted that chalking off the goal was a mistake. Fulham would go on to lose 2-0 to their West London opponents.

He stated that the decision to rule out the goal did not meet the requirements for a VAR intervention since there was not a clear error by the referee and should have been a’referees’ call’ instead.

Salisbury has been replaced by Chris Kavanagh for the match against Liverpool and Arsenal, which begins at 17:30 CET.
