Sunderland returned to Premier League play on Saturday, taking on Manchester City.
Sunderland resumed their Premier League campaign on Saturday afternoon, facing Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium.
Regis Le Bris and his team had a disappointing afternoon, with Luke O’Nien sent off at the end of a 3-0 defeat. Here’s how we assessed all of the Black Cats who participated on the day…

1. GK – Robin Roefs
It’s hard to claim that he had any control over any of the goals and made some wise decisions.
Distribution was excellent at times. 6| Chris Fryatt

2. RWB – Nordi Mukiele
Got forward nicely early and late, and made one fantastic interception to put Isidor away in the first half.

3. CB – Dan Ballard
Can be rather proud of his efforts in the end. They defended effectively, especially as the game loosened up in the second half.
He emerged from his battle with Haaland victorious, and he produced one great block to deny Foden. 7 | Getty Images.

4. CB – Lutsharel Geertruida
We had a good game. One fantastic block to deny Haaland, and the overall defence was solid.
