Plans for supermarket on former hotel site.
A supermarket, care home, and coffee shop might all be erected on the site of a former hotel in Leicester.
Aldi has filed a planning application with Leicester City Council to demolish the former Premier Inn on Braunstone Lane East and construct an Aldi store, a drive-through coffee shop, and a care facility.
According to the applicant’s planning paperwork, the site has experienced “significant vandalism” since the hotel chain left, as well as fires and flooding on a “regular basis”.
According to the documents, the site ideas might provide up to 60 full-time equivalent jobs, as well as a variety of temporary construction positions.
The developer has submitted an outline proposal for the 66-bed care home and drive-through coffee shop, which means that a separate reserved matters application with more information must be approved before construction can begin.
The supermarket’s planning application is complete, which means that no additional applications will be necessary if the proposal is accepted by the council.
Planning documents further stated: “The proposal will bring about significant environmental and visual improvements to this prominent corner site which sits at a crossroads with two of the most significant roads in the southwest part of Leicester.”
It will transform a run-down site into a high-quality, modern mixed-use development with appealing landscaping.”
