Plans to turn Coventry city centre building into an HMO

Plans to turn Coventry city centre building into an HMO.

According to its owner, the decision was made because ‘the existing stock of student accommodation in the city outweighs demand’.

An ‘underused’ student accommodation block on the outskirts of Coventry’s city centre could be converted into an HMO.

Due to a lack of students, an application has been filed with the city council to convert a portion of Eden Square Student Living on Stoney Stanton Road into a House of Multiple Occupation (HMO).

Privilege, which currently houses students from Coventry and Warwick Universities in its Eden Square development, claims that it has never reached full occupancy.

A large emergency service presence rushed to the scene, and a man was taken to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary for treatment.

The extent of his injuries is unknown at this time. Officers continued to cordon off the area this morning, with access to Regent Quay completely blocked.

Police Scotland confirmed that investigations into the incident are still ongoing to “establish the full circumstances”.

A police spokesperson stated: “Around 11.55 p.m. on Friday, August 22, 2025, we received a report of a man found injured on Commerce Street in Aberdeen.

“Emergency services responded, and the man was transported to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary for treatment.

“Enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances.”
