Police confirm error and speeding refund after Coventry driver fined twice

Police confirm error and speeding refund after Coventry driver fined twice.

The driver left scratching his head after exceeding 30 mph in a 40 mph zone.

Police have admitted there was an error on their part that left a motorist perplexed and unhappy after being fined twice for exceeding 30mph in a posted 40mph zone.

As previously reported by CoventryLive, a householder received a fine from West Midlands Police earlier this month for alleged speeding on Four Pound Avenue.

She received two such fines for exceeding the 30mph speed limit, despite the fact that there were numerous signs on the route indicating that the zone was 40mph.

The driver expressed their astonishment at receiving the fines and revealed that their efforts to explain their innocence with police and the council were futile.

Following the initial report, Coventry City Council revealed that the road signs were correct and that speed enforcement was the responsibility of the local police department.

After enquiring about the situation, West Midlands Police answered that there had been an error and that the driver’s fine was being reversed.

A spokesman for West Midlands Police said: “We reviewed the issuance of the tickets and they have now been cancelled.”
