Police investigate racist sign discovered on Aberdeen street.
A racist placard was uncovered on an Aberdeen street, prompting an investigation by police.
A neighbour noticed the sign, “Aberdeen declares total n—– death,” while dropping their children off at school on Monday.
A Police Scotland spokesperson stated: “On Monday, February 16, 2026, officers in Aberdeen were made aware of a placard containing racist material in the West North Street area of Aberdeen.
“The sign has now been removed and enquiries are ongoing to establish who is responsible for putting it there.”
City residents have already expressed concern over an onslaught of racist banners in 2023.
The banner, claiming to be from Aberdeen City Council, used an abusive term to describe people of colour and directed them to “make their way towards Aberdeen Airport” to take the “first flight back to Africa”.
At the time, then-councillor Alex Nicoll stated: “These awful racist leaflets have no place in our tolerant and friendly city and are clearly not council-related, but rather the work of a cowardly individual or individuals who hide behind anonymity.
“Our staff will remove and dispose of any they find.”
The police added: “Anyone with information should contact police via 101 and quote incident number 0618 of 16 February 2026.”
