A police officer was taken to hospital following a serious incident in Middleton-on-Sea.

Photos and video footage captured a big emergency event on Lane End Road around 7 p.m. on Sunday (March 1).

Sussex Police responded to a report of a driver falling asleep behind the wheel on Lane End Road in Middleton-on-Sea on Sunday (March 1) at 6pm. Officers discovered the vehicle had been driven further down the road.

“A man from the car assaulted two police officers.” He was arrested on suspicion of assault and driving while intoxicated or under the influence of narcotics and taken into detention, where he was later charged with causing grievous bodily harm.

“One of the officers sustained a head injury and has been taken to hospital for medical checks and treatment.”

Police said investigations are ‘ongoing’, and anyone who witnessed the event is encouraged to report it online or phone 101, referencing serial 933 of 01/03.
