QPR boss Stephan tight-lipped on Kone speculation

QPR boss Stephan tight-lipped on Kone speculation.

Queens Park Rangers manager Julien Stephan refused to comment on transfer rumours linking his club with a move for Wycombe Wanderers striker Richard Kone.

The Frenchman was speaking after the Rs blew a two-goal lead to lose 3-2 to Plymouth Argyle in the first round of the Carabao Cup.

Last month, the Hoops sold Charlie Kelman, the League One top scorer from last season, to Charlton Athletic and loaned Alfie Lloyd to Leyton Orient.

Now, reports suggest that the club is interested in signing 22-year-old Kone, who scored 21 goals for the Chairboys last season.

However, when asked by BBC Sport if fans could expect to see the young Ivorian in QPR colours this season, the former Rennes manager said:

“I want to talk about the QPR players, and I can’t do anything else, so we can talk about [Rumarn] Burrell, [Rayan] Kolli, and [Emmerson] Sutton, the striker. “I can’t speak because it’s not QPR’s player.”

Daniel Bennie and Kolli scored first-half goals at Home Park, putting the Rs ahead 2-0 at halftime.

However, Brendan Wiredu’s headed goal halved the deficit within three minutes of the restart, and an Owen Oseni double completed the turnaround for the hosts.

Stephan gave Jaiden Putman, Tylon Smith, Alex Wilkie, and Jaylan Pearman their full debuts, while Kalen Brunson, Ashley Trujillo, Teddy Tarbotton, and Cian Dillon made their club debuts off the bench.

“It was a good opportunity to show the young players, or the very young players, and to give them some experience,” Stephan told the press. “And if we never put the young players on the pitch, they will not be able to gain this experience.

So, yeah, I believe they learn a lot from this game. They also learn the importance of being completely focused at all times.
