QPR’s Burrell adapting quickly to his ‘big step up’

QPR’s Burrell adapting quickly to his ‘big step up’.

Rumarn Burrell, a striker for Queens Park Rangers, says the transfer to the Championship has been a “big step up,” but he’s “comfortable” in his new surroundings.

The Jamaica international joined the Rs from League One club Burton Albion in July, his first taste of life in the English Football League’s second division after previously competing in the Scottish Championship with Falkirk.

Burrell has started four of QPR’s six league games and has one goal and one assist, impressing with his explosive pace and increased threat in the final third.

That was most evident in the 3-1 victory over Wrexham, when the 24-year-old opened his account by pursuing a long ball forward and running past a defender with a significant head start on him before scoring well.

“Championship level is not easy, and it’s been a really big step up for me,” Burrell told BBC London. “It’s faster-paced, there’s a little bit of quality everywhere, and there’s a lot of really good attacking players with a lot of skills that are difficult to defend.

“It is a step up, but there hasn’t been anything I couldn’t do, and I haven’t felt out of my element. I felt at ease, and I adjusted to the level and standard.”
