Rangers open talks over ‘long-term’ deal for £6.8million hitman as Ibrox exit edges closer

Rangers open talks over ‘long-term’ deal for £6.8million hitman as Ibrox exit edges closer.

Rangers have been granted permission to talk with the former Aberdeen striker.

Girona has given Rangers permission to hold discussions with striker Bojan Miovski, who wants to leave the La Liga club and commit his long-term future to another club, according to a new Sky Sports report.

The former Aberdeen striker joined the La Liga club last summer for a fee of £6.8 million, but has struggled for regular first-team football, scoring only twice in 17 league games at the Estadi Montilivi, and the Spanish club is now willing to sanction a deal that would return the forward to the Scottish Premiership.

Reports of Rangers’ interest in Miovski surfaced late last week, and the speculation grew when he was left out of Girona’s squad for last Sunday’s league match against Villarreal.

After the match, Girona’s head coach, Míchel Sánchez Muñoz, confirmed his decision to exclude the marksman, implying he was no longer in his plans.

Hopes for the 26-year-old’s return to Scotland appear to have grown since the weekend, with Rangers reportedly in talks with the player’s representation.

According to Sky Sports, the striker is keen on making the move and sees a return to Scotland as the best way to reignite his career.

The ex-MTK Budapest star, who scored 44 goals in 91 starts for Aberdeen during his two-season stay at Pittodrie, could leave Girona this summer, either on loan or permanently, according to the report.

However, Miovski wants to’secure his long-term future at another club’, so any short-term deal is likely to include a clause that could make it permanent in the future.

If the ex-Dons hitman completes his move to Ibrox, he will fill the void left by Hamza Igamane’s upcoming exit.

The Moroccan striker is set to join Lille this week after the Ligue 1 club accepted a proposal of roughly £10 million for the teenage attacker.

The Scotsman believes that the French club triggered a release provision in Igamane’s contract after a summer-long pursuit of the player, who joined Rangers from AS Far for £1.7 million last summer.

Igamane is alleged to have refused to come on as a substitute in Rangers’ 1-1 draw away to St Mirren last weekend, citing an injury.

He has not trained with Russell Martin’s side ahead of the important Champions League playoff second leg against Club Brugge on Wednesday evening, and the 22-year-old is expected to play his final game in a royal blue jersey.
