16-cap Scotland man seals ‘special’ move

Oli McBurnie, a Scotland international, has left Las Palmas to join EFL Championship club Hull City.

The striker has signed a three-year contract with an option for an additional year after the Tigers activated a clause that allowed him to leave the Gran Canaria club on a free transfer following their relegation from La Liga last season.

McBurnie, who has 16 caps for Scotland, was reportedly on the radar of former club Sheffield United, but opted to move to the MKM Stadium instead. “I’m buzzing,” McBurnie stated.

“This has been a long time coming. Everyone has worked hard to reach this point. Thank you to Jared (Dublin), the owner and manager, for getting things done. Jared spoke with me at the end of last season.

I was in Spain last year, and I told Jared right away that if I was to return to England, it needed to be something special. I needed to return for something exciting while also being appropriate for me and my family.”

Dundee sent recruitment warning

Dundee head coach Steven Pressley had warned the club against repeating this summer’s “scramble” to add players to the squad.

The Dens Park manager has lost key players Josh Mulligan and Lyle Cameron this summer, who have joined Hibs and Rangers, respectively, as well as eight other first-team players, forcing Pressley to overhaul the squad.

“This cannot happen again for us as a club,” Pressley stated. “Moving forward, we need to have a better process for this.

We do not want to be in a position where we have to scramble every season to find players. We need to be in a position where there is much more stability within the squad. It’s difficult to create, but we’re trying.

We’ve given out several two- to three-year contracts. I know everyone wants success right now, but this is a huge job and a real challenge, and we need to get this part right.”

Staying with Dundee, the club has started talks with defender Luke Graham about an extension. The 21-year-old’s current contract expires in the summer of 2027, and reports suggest they will try to secure his future this summer.

Hearts exit agreed

Hearts youngster Adam Forrester is set to sign a season-long loan deal with St Johnstone, with head coach Derek McInnes willing to let the full-back leave the club temporarily this summer.

The Saints hope to confirm the signing of the 20-year-old Tynecastle starlet before Friday night’s league trip to Ross County, with the Edinburgh Evening News reporting that a deal has been’verbally agreed.’

Forrester had a breakout season in Gorgie last season, making 25 league appearances, but the signing of Norwegian right-back Christian Borchgrevink means he is unlikely to see regular first-team action this season.

Meanwhile, Hearts have confirmed that Alfie and Stanley Wilson have signed their first professional contracts with the club, joining brother James in a full-time role at Riccarton.

Rangers ‘reach agreement’

Rangers defender Ridvan Yilmaz is on the verge of leaving the club, with Besiktas reportedly leading the race for the left-back’s signature.

The Turkish defender has been linked with a move away from Ibrox since the summer, and has yet to appear in any of Russell Martin’s matchday squads this season.

Despite being out of favour at Rangers, a number of clubs on the continent are interested in signing the defender, who is almost certain to leave before the transfer deadline.

One report even claimed the club had ‘reached a full agreement’ with Besiktas over a deal for the player, though that is believed to be premature.Derek Ferguson, a former Rangers midfielder, believes the deal to bring him to the club was a’mistake’. Ferguson told IbroxNews: “He’s never been one of my favourites. Others in Scottish football at the time could have done an equally good job.

He was expected to move to Turkey within six months of arriving here. I don’t know him personally, but he’s another who needs to move on after what will be a loss.
