Reading FC to re-purpose disused ticket office for new bar.
Reading are planning to convert a disused ticket office into a new bar to help reduce wait times for drinks outside the Select Car Leasing Stadium.
Infrastructure and fan experience are two of the top priorities for new owner Rob Couhig, who arrived in town ahead of tomorrow’s visit by Europa League champions Tottenham Hotspur, and the American has wasted no time in putting plans in place.
While the club’s main ticket office in the West Stand is still fully operational, a smaller facility in the Sir John Madejski Stand has been rarely used in recent years, serving primarily for large crowds and ticket collections.
In an effort to reduce wait times in the Fanzone outside the stand, which includes a music stage and food vendors, the club plans to convert the Sir John Madejski Stand ticket office into a dedicated bar space. This came as the club announced Cruzcampo’s addition to the alcoholic lineup for stadium fans.
Tim Kilpatrick, the club’s Head of Commercial, said: “We’re delighted to be working closely with Heineken to bring Cruzcampo to the Select Car Leasing Stadium. We understand how important those pre-match moments are—meeting with friends, having a drink, and taking in the atmosphere.
We’re actively working to make the matchday experience better, faster, and more enjoyable for every supporter who walks through our doors, while also continuing to build something our fans feel truly a part of.” While development has begun, it will not be ready for the start of the season when over 20,000 fans descend on the ground for Spurs’ visit tomorrow and Huddersfield Town begin the Royals’ home fixtures on August 9.
The fanzone has been in use for several years, but it was the setting for a special day on the final day of last season, when thousands gathered to watch The Amazons and commemorate the end of Dai Yongge’s reign.
