Remembering Mercer’s in Blackburn – a real treasure trove.

We recently published a shot of the exterior of Mercer’s on Northgate in Blackburn, which is likely one of the most-missed Blackburn town centre retailers.

It elicited such a response from Looking Back readers that we had to go into the archives for this collection of images from the 1980s and 1990s that show the shop as an Aladdin’s cave, selling everything from homeware to toys and tools.

The store on Northgate closed in 2009, and the toy department moved to Darwen Street, where it remained for another six years.
