Report | Argyle Women 2-1 Cardiff City.

Argyle Women won their second pre-season game on Sunday afternoon, defeating Cardiff City 2-1 at Manadon Sports Hub.

Charlotte Whitmore and Roisin Kivel’s first-half goals propelled the Greens to victory, despite the visiting team scoring in the final moments of the game.

The first half of the game was dominated by both teams battling to keep possession of the ball for long stretches. High pressing and intensity made this a difficult task, but Argyle struck first just before the half-hour mark.

Whitmore, who was playing on the right flank, used her speed to get past the visitors’ high defensive line, round the onrushing custodian and slot the ball into an open goal.

Ten minutes later, one turned into two. Kivel, a new signing, picked up the ball on the left and chipped it from outside the area into the far corner to double the Greens’ lead.

Argyle’s second half was dominated by rolling substitutions, which provided valuable minutes to those in need until the 87th minute, when Cardiff scored the game’s only goal.

The visitors were awarded a free kick after a trialist handballed the ball just outside the area, and it found the back of the net after being curled into the far top corner of Argyle’s goal.

The final whistle blew, and the Greens secured their second pre-season victory, with all eyes now turning to next Sunday’s match against Wolverhampton Wanderers at Home Park.
