Residents say ‘shambolic’ roadworks have left them with no way to get to work.
Ewood’s pavements will be shared by both pedestrians and bikes.
Residents and small business owners in Lancashire have labelled a council’s choice to carry out multiple roadworks schemes at the same time as “shambolic”.
Earlier this month, temporary traffic lights were put at Ewood, where the pavements are being extended as part of Blackburn with Darwen Borough Council’s ‘active travel’ initiative, generating tailbacks all the way back to Darwen. Once the construction is finished, pavements will
‘Shared’ by walkers and bikers in an effort to encourage more people to bike and walk to work.
However, the roadworks are not expected to cease for “one or two weeks” , The residents have accused the council of making it impossible for them to get to work.
At the same time as the Ewood roadworks, the main road through Darwen, the A666, is blocked overnight for a large resurfacing project, and Bog Height Road, which connects Darwen to Blackburn via Feniscowles or Cherry Tree, is occasionally closed. There have also been closures on Roman Road and Pole Lane.
