Schumacher | We Should Have Scored More

According to Pete Oliver, demanding manager Steven Schumacher was pleased with another strong showing as Wanderers move closer to full throttle, though he would have preferred to see more goals at one end and fewer at the other.
In their penultimate warm-up match, the Whites defeated Shrewsbury Town 5-2, securing their fourth consecutive preseason victory.
After wasting some good chances and letting the Shrews score two goals in the second half to stop a run of three straight shutouts, Wanderers had too much for the League Two team and ought to have won by a larger margin.
“We desired a spotless record. When Schumacher returned to the field where he had celebrated his first away victory as Wanderers’ head coach in February, he insisted, “We said at halftime we should have been 6-0 up.”

“We blew three excellent opportunities. “Let’s be professional, let’s not give anything silly away, let’s make no mistakes if we can,” we said. After that, we made a small mistake by giving them a corner. First, it was a little careless to give away a corner, and then we struggled with the passing, which led to their boy scoring.
“That disappointed us, and we only need to win a tackle in the final minute to score the final goal.” However, it’s okay to make mistakes during the preseason since you will inevitably make them.
“I think our performance was excellent. For us, it was a better game test. It appeared to be something akin to a league game. We anticipated it would be competitive because they narrowed and shortened the pitch this year.
It was a good game early on, with some heavy tackles going in. The game started to loosen up a bit once we found our rhythm and scored a few goals.
“The only thing that disappointed me at halftime was that we only scored three goals instead of six. However, it served as a useful test for our current goals. Our goal is to continue getting better. We still have a ton of work to do and this isn’t the first article yet.
Thierry Gale, a flying winger, opened the scoring with his first Wanderers goal, and despite Shrewsbury’s efforts to tighten their pitch in anticipation of League Two life, they were unable to contain him.
In last Saturday’s victory over Hibernian, fellow wideman Amario Cozier-Duberry made his debut, and Gale’s spectacular performance once more demonstrated that the two summer additions might pose a serious threat to the Whites’ offensive play when the new campaign begins.

Schumacher, whose team plays Championship team Preston North End this weekend before playing their League One debut against Stockport County on Sunday, continued, “The plan was to get him 60 minutes today.”
We are aware that he is lagging somewhat in his preseason. He gave us some hints about his character on Saturday at Hibs, and he gave us a little more today, but we’re building him up gradually.
“He did a great job taking aim. It was an outstanding conclusion. He demonstrated his ability to go to his left foot and on the outside in the second half. It is therefore challenging to mark against when you have that speed and that quality from both feet. Amario is able to go both ways, so it was a really pleasant, happy experience. I’m happy for him, and I have no doubt that as the weeks pass, he will get stronger.
Before Josh Dacres-Cogley, an own goal, and an incredible solo effort from Max Conway completed another positive evening, teenager Daeshon Lawrence also scored his first senior goal while wearing a Wanderers shirt.
Conway started the game at left-back once more, and Schumacher later said that Wanderers may yet look to bolster that position given that summer acquisition Richard Taylor is expected to miss three or four weeks due to a groin issue sustained over the weekend.
