Seasonal worker accused of serious assault on Arbroath to Dundee bus has fled to Uzbekistan.
Gayrat Yarlakabov was scheduled to stand trial before a jury, but has not been seen since his initial court appearance.
A seasonal worker suspected of sexually abusing a lady on a bus between Arbroath and Dundee has fled to Uzbekistan, according to court documents.
Gayrat Yarlakabov is accused of targeting the woman on October 4, 2024, during the travel. Prosecutors claim Yarlakabov recorded the incident on his phone and intended to rape her.
He previously appeared from detention at Dundee Sheriff Court and was released on bail pending further court appearances.
Days afterward, Yarlakabov flew to Tashkent, Uzbekistan’s capital, and has never returned to Scotland.
Yarlakabov was scheduled to face a jury trial on charges that he touched the woman on the body, kissed her mouth repeatedly, and placed his hand inside her clothing.
He allegedly grabbed her breasts and took one of them from her top. The 27-year-old was charged with groping her lower body inappropriately before exposing himself.
Yarlakabov, who was staying at a trailer site for seasonal workers on a farm near Carnoustie, allegedly committed additional sexual assault while filming the alleged occurrence.
The case was set for a first diet on Tuesday, during which solicitor Anika Jethwa stated that she had not heard from Yarlakabov since his original prison appearance in October 2024. Sheriff Gregor Murray issued a warrant for his arrest.
The case comes while a warrant is still out for Dr Mohammed Gado, a sexual abuser who is said to have fled to Egypt after being convicted of abusing patients in Dundee.
And Perth rapist Omed Hussain, who was convicted in his absence of sexually assaulting a sleeping university student, fled to Iran and has yet to return to face justice.
